MAINTAINING MOTIVATION WHEN WORKING
AT HOME

Running a home business is GREAT!  As you know, I
simply love working from home.  However, there are
days when I just want to lay on the couch, turn on
the TV and laze around.  So how do you stop yourself
from doing that?  How do you stay motivated?

I’m sure the answers to this are different for each
person and each personality type.  What keeps me
moving is the tremendous amount of things I have to
accomplish in a week.  I make a list every single day
of all the things I have to do.  I know, that if I
didn’t keep up with the list, by Friday I would be so
overwhelmed with projects and work, I would kick myself for not doing what I should have been doing to keep up with my business.

Daily “to do” lists are a constant, in your face kind
of reminder that keep you on track.  For me, there is
no time at all for daytime television.  I barely watch
3 hours per week, and then it’s late night Seinfeld…
The daily “to do” list keeps me motivated.

So, what other things can you do to stay motivated?

Here are some things I thought of:
Break up your day into segments.  Plan your day.
Give yourself a proper lunch break.  This will give you
a routine and give you something to look forward to.
Reward yourself for keeping up with your medical transcription.  Post inspiring quotes and verses in your office area.  Give yourself a proper work time schedule and try to stick with it.  Get some exercise.  Laugh often.

MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION TIPS

It seems everybody enjoyed the lesson on plurals
last week.  This week I will go over some commonly used
abbreviations with you.

EKG – electrocardiogram
CVA – cardiovascular accident, cerebrovascular accident,
costovertebral angle
GI – gastrointestinal
MRI – magnetic resonance imaging
CAT – computer axial tomography
CABG – coronary artery bypass
(pronounced cabbage..don’t type that!)
CVD – cardiovascular disease
Ig – immunoglobulin
IG – immune globulin intragastric
IgA – gamma A immunoglobulin
IgD – gamma D immunoglobulin
IgM – gamma M immunoglobulin
bid, b.i.d. or BID – twice a day
tid, - three times a day
q – every
po – by mouth

For example, if a patient is given Levaquin 500 mg to be
taken once a day, you would type:

Levaquin 500 mg po qd.

If the patient was prescribed a medication to be taken four times per day, you would type the milligrams and then qid, or po qid.
